QUESTIONS / SUGGESTION / COMPLAINT POST / FAQ
If you have a question you need answered, suggestion for the game, or a complaint, please leave it here! We will discuss ways to incorporate ideas or squash problems based on what you guys give to us!
FAQ
- Should Professor-posted classroom threads be formatted differently?
Yes! You don't need to include the date and time, just the week; also, it will be listed as open to any students who take the subject. In the comments, you'll have separate threads started for each class or year, depending on how you prefer to organize it. Some of the more popular classes have enough students to divide them properly, but if one divides the smaller classes, it might end up with one student in one class, and four in another!
Furthermore, you only need to post once for the in-game week, since each student who takes the class has it once a week. In short, your post will look like...
Week Name: 'NAME HERE'
Location: SUBJECT classroom
Open To: Any Student Taking SUBJECT
Currently Involving: PROFESSOR'S NAME
Followed by the comments for the class threads.
- I'm an experienced Roleplayer, but this is my first LJ RP -- can I still nab my second without a waiting period?
Yes; as long as you have played a text-based RPG in the past, you qualify. Just let us know; we can't read minds. THIS IS THE ONLY INSTANCE IN WHICH TWO CHARACTERS WILL BE APPROVED AT ONE or WITHOUT the 100 POST LIMIT. No exceptions!
- When filling in my application or timeline for backstorying, how do I go about determining my character's grades and OWLs? Do I just make them up?
Yes -- but do be careful and consider what classes your character is good at, bad at, and mediocre at. The grades they earn should reflect this!
- What about First Years and Flying Lessons? It's not listed as a class.
We've only seen the 'class' once in canon, and we can assume that it's generally all there is -- the flight instructor will teach the First Years how to fly in one or maybe even two lessons, and then continue the year as the Quidditch Referree.
- I applied for a character. Why is it taking so long to be approved!?
Please, please be patient. There are two very real people that have to look at each application, with two very real lives. One might not be able to see it until a day or so after it's submitted, then another a couple days later. The point is, it all adds up. Please don't pressure us, please don't ask us to approve them -- they aren't intentionally ignored.
Also, tallies are sometimes needed to approve a character. If there aren't enough points, it will be denied. We will not go back in and approve the character after the tallies are posted. We don't have the time to fish through the applications and find the application to approve it. You must reapply once you have the points. In other words -- it would be wise to not even apply if you don't have the points needed. As always, the tallies can be seen HERE.
POINTS NEEDED = 100.
- I have 400 points, can I apply for more than one character?
NO. While 100 is the minimum required amount of posts in order to get a new character, only ONE character can be applied for at one time. Once a character is approved, posts will be reset to zero. This is not to discourage players from getting more characters, but to encourage players to develop their characters before adding another!
If you are a new player with experience, this rule does not apply to your first two characters. It does, however, apply from that point forward!
- The caps you guys have set on the bloodlines are pretty sucky. Where in the world did you get your numbers from!?
No lip about it!! XD Our members voted on the caps, and they're set to reflect the proper population that a full Hogwarts will hold: Students, professors, and Aurors. You can see the post HERE.
- I'm loving the game and I'm ready to apply for a third character!! How do I do that?
You need to earn at least 100 points between character approvals. This used to be 78 points within two IG weeks, but due to a community poll this number was changed.
- This thread totally bothers me -- it's just so stupid that something this mushy/dangerous/ridiculous is going on within the school!!
Put simply? Tough luck. If you don't like a thread, and it's not breaking any rules, simply don't read it. Note that anything occurring in the thread is happening with the permission of those involved -- it's something they wish to do, whether it's putting their own character in danger or putting them in risk for getting caught doing something wrong.
- The thread's getting so long that the window's stretched; is it okay to wrap so that it's not so crazy?
Absolutely! But make sure each new wrap keeps the threads going in a straight line, and the posting order remains intact.
- There's obviously a group for the kids -- Dumbledore's Army -- and plenty of Death Eater grouping going on; what about The Order of the Phoenix? Is it still in effect?
The Order is still in effect, and Professors / Aurors may request at the Plot Permission post to join the ranks. You must have proven through threads that the character is not only one hundred percent against Voldemort, but FOR DUMBLEDORE.
- I was told to not play my character in this way; that's stifling the character's growth!!
No, it isn't; a student who is defined at being bad in Potions is not going to easily know the names of ingredients, or be able to brew the potion right on the first try. A character specified as a gentle person will not suddenly attack someone. If we see this, we will point it out -- play your character as they were written! If the grow, then it will be due to reasons. One can study extra hard for a quiz and make a decent mark, but they still won't suddenly be an ace in the subject, etc.
- Do I have to make a character journal?
It isn't mandatory, but everyone does it -- it has its benefits, in that you can keep the RP separate from your personal LJ. You can also friend the other characters more freely, they'll know to friend you back, and you have the option to customize it using a PB-inspired layout, or House colors!
- I want to upgrade the broom or add a class -- can I do that?
Broom upgrades or purchases will be denied for the time being; adding classes will be allowed, as long as the character doesn't have a lot of classes already; even additions and clarifications to the character's personal history, etc will be allowed as long as it flows properly and makes sense. Classes may not be dropped, subjects may not be moved to or from the 'Worst/Best Subjects' lists.
- Do I have to have a body model?
Nope! It does help our players when imagining expressions and movements, but it isn't required; however, if you decide at a later date that you'd like to have one, it must be approved.
- How long does someone have to be inactive before their characters are removed?
Three in-character weeks -- so, in OOC time, a roughly a month and a half. Players who have characters removed to inactivity may not easily reapply or get a new character unless they prove that they can be more active.
- If a thread occurs in an open area, is it safe to assume that the events that occurred are common knowledge? Like something out on the grounds, for example.
Absolutely! And hey, it's Hogwarts. Gossip spreads like wildfire.
- What order do you kill off characters family members?
Completely at random.
- Can we make up our own Hogsmeade weekends?
No; Hogsmeade weekends will be designated and announced. Any student 'found there' without permission will be punished appropriately.
- What are with all of these abbreviations?!
DE/DE's = Death Eaters
OOtP = Order of the Phoenix
DA = Dumbledore's Army
FUKD = Future United Kingdom Death Eaters
