Arithmancy Professor
[info]hih_dumbledore

Character Information
Name:
Professor Sorrows Askes
LJ Username: [info]1_2bucklemyshoe
Age: 42
Birthdate: May 21
Location: Hogwarts
Former House: (If he/she did not attend Hogwarts, please note that here, but this will not be allowed often!) Ravenclaw
Occupation: (full description; where, what their job entails, if/where they travel, etc) Arithmancy professor; Sorrows has published a number of books and essays on the importance of numbers in the daily lives of modern wizards.

Bloodline: (Half, Pure, Muggle) Pureblooded
Heritage: (Scottish, Irish, etc) Welsh
Personal History: Professor Askes was the product of the tryst of a mentally-unbalanced Squib from a very long and pure line, and a pureblooded (not to mention, married) aristocrat. Inbreeding, indeed. His first few years of life were spent dodging blows from his single mother, Marian Askes. But the woman had been ostracized from her family for many years for being a Squib, the final blow coming when she bore a bastard child and wouldn't admit to who the father was. They lived in a very small tenement in London-- she sometimes worked as a waitress, often getting drunk at work and coming home in a raging fury. The fact that her son started showing signs of magic at around the age of nine didn't help much either-- if she couldn't be magical, she was determined to beat it out of Sorrows. It became apparent what was going on to the only member of the family that was still speaking to Marian-- a kindly aunt named Bethelsa. Appalled by what she saw, she took Sorrows away from his mother and moved him to the countryside to raise properly. But plenty damage had already been done to Sorrows by the time help came. His spine was already jarringly crooked-- attributed to a birth defect by Bethelsa, from the amount of overly-pure blood in his line. His mother had beat him so frequently that it had become even more crooked, requiring him to walk with a cane by the age of sixteen. Luckily enough, while his back could not be healed, his heart was-- and quickly-- by the matronly lady who took care of him. By the time he was old enough to enter Hogwarts, Sorrows had become a smiling lad with a love for cats (Bethelsa kept many) and an attitude for learning. He was quickly accepted into Ravenclaw where he proceeded to get very fine marks. He had a very uneventful school life-- he never dated (he attributed it more towards his work load than his looks), and didn't keep very many close friends that weren't professors. But he still considers school to be one of the best parts of his life. After graduating, he decided to study abroad in Saudi Arabia to learn more about his passion-- numbers. He absorbed as much as he could from the birthplace of Algebra, before returning home to become a very noted Arithmancist. At the age of thirty, he decided he wanted to return to school and applied to take the position as Arithmancy professor at Hogwarts and has been there for twelve years.
Personality: Sorrows makes up for his ugly appearance in personality. Despite his horrid upbringing, he developed a very optimistic outlook on life. Although he is rarely seen about the castle due to his bad back, those that do see him would remark that he has an amazing talent of making anyone's day--whether it be by telling them something to do with the Heart Numbers effecting their love lives in a positive way in the near future, or by simply just smiling at them and informing them how nice they look. Some might regard him as an annoying optimist (of the sort who can say a sincerely good thing about their deepest enemy), but, naturally, this doesn't bother him in the slightest. He tends to take very neutral positions in arguments and doesn't appear to have any outward biases, but he is actually, openly, Dumbledore's man.

Physical Description: (include hair color, eye color, height, weight, and build at the VERY least) Sorrows is, honestly, not much to look at. With his bad back and lazy eye, he has never been one to attract the ladies (or the fellows, for that matter), but that doesn't seem to bother him. Standing at 5-foot-eleven when fully-erect, Sorrows as a slight build (his handicap, naturally, prevents him from building much muscle), straight brown hair that reaches his chin, and blue eyes. Sorrows weighs in at about 168 lbs. He dresses in fairly shabby clothing (being a teacher doesn't really pay so well-- not that he has much care for what he wears anyways), preferring warm wool robes instead of more stylish ones. His face is lined and a bit harsh looking, but he is good-natured and generally smiles more than any other expression.
Preferred Body Model: (please include a link to an image) Sam Neil http://www.ibiblio.org/samneill/pictures/merlin/merlin4.jpg

Pet/Pet Name: (Cats, toads, and owls are allowed - anything else is by permission only!) He has a very meddling long-haired Kneazle named Sum.
Broom: (Nimbus 2001's and Firebolts by permission only!) No flying for Sorrows.
Wand: for easier access, Sorrow's wand is embedded within the cane he uses to get around. It is made out of cherry wood, is approximately 4'3" tall and has the head of a Kneazle carved on the top. The core is made from dragon heartstring.

Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor
[info]hih_dumbledore

Character Information
Name: Claire Frey
LJ Username: (if available) [info]clairefrey
Age: 32
Birthdate: April 16 1974
Location: Hogwarts
Former House: Ravenclaw
Occupation: Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor

Bloodline: Pureblood
Heritage: English/French
Personal History: Claire was born to Frédéric and Anna Frey in 1974, Marseilles, France. Frédéric was a teacher at Beauxbatons and Anna had given up her job as an unspeakable at the British Ministry of Magic to move to France with her husband and raise their daughter while he worked. When Claire was two the family moved to London and her parents joined the Order of the Phoenix to help in the fight against Voldemort. Frédéric remained working at Beauxbatons secretly looking for more followers for the Order. He only came home to London during school holidays. When Claire was five, Anna went back to her job at the Ministry and used the position to keep an eye on the Ministry for Dumbledore. Claire never understood what was going on, all she knew was that she never got to spend enough time with her parents. Unfortunately the time was cut short even further when her Mum and Dad were killed by Death Eaters in the Christmas holidays of 1980. Claire was just six years old. Strangely enough this is when she first noticed her magical ability - she made everyone's teardrops turn to snow during the wake. She was heartbroken and she really didn't understand how to deal with the pain. Her way was to hold back the tears and bottle it all up - to freeze the pain so it didn't hurt anymore.

Her father's sister, Cécile, moved to London to care for Claire. When she was of age, she received a letter from both Hogwarts and Beauxbatons, but it was her parents wishes that she attend Hogwarts, they wanted her wherever Dumbledore was.

She was sorted into Ravenclaw almost as soon as the Sorting Hat touched her head. Her time at Hogwarts was fairly miserable, she was picked on a lot by Slytherins for having parents who were blood traitors (and the fact they were dead was brought up a lot too). It was through these taunts that she started getting rather ambitious about becoming an auror. Not only would she extract revenge on the people who teased her, she could find the Death Eaters who killed her parents and get the best revenge of all on them. Claire graduated from Hogwarts with good enough marks to start auror training. She took a year's holiday in France and then came back to study. Unfortunately, after three years study, she failed the final test and therefore wasn't able to become an auror. This absolutely devastated her, as she had never failed anything before that she had devoted this much time to. She headed down a bit of a shame spiral for a while and in 1996 she got a job in Hogsmeade, working in Dervish & Banges. It was a job that wasted her talent but she did have fun. She especially liked talking to all the students that came through during their Hogsmeade trips.

It was here she was approached to join the order, but she turned down the offer. She realised that while she is against Voldemort and all that he stands for, she isn't a fan of Dumbledore either. She blames him for the death of her parents and therefore refuses to fight in a war that she think is only killing innocent people.

She does, however, feel the desire to do something good for the war and so in 1999 she quits working in Dervish & Banges and decides to study to become a teacher. After teaching Charms for several years at Beauxbatons she decided to apply for a job at Hogwarts for the present school year, not as a Charms teacher, but as the DADA one. She believes it's a prefect way to exact revenge - teach future generations to beat the evil forces.

Personality: These Ravenclaws will have lightning-fast mental reflexes. Aries is an intellectual sign, but it is also an impatient sign; Ravenclaws who were born under this sign are likely to tolerate no dull wits or stupidity, whether they see this lack of mental competence in themselves (in which case they will berate themselves for not understanding, or give up quickly in frustration without really trying to overcome their difficulty in learning) or in others (in which case they will lash out at the offender with acidic comments and haughty, cutting looks). These Ravenclaws will want to be at the head of the class, dominating other students in their chosen intellectual field, and may be almost as competitive as Slytherins. However, the true aim of every Ravenclaw is knowledge, knowledge, and more knowledge. While a Slytherin might see losing a magical duel or being bested by another student in a DADA class as humiliating, the Ravenclaw will probably just take delight in competition for its own sake, and see defeat as a learning experience.

Claire is a tough little cookie. Although she was teased quite frequently in school, not once did she cry or even fight back. When she was young her weapon of choice was to completely ignore people. It wasn't until she gained self confidence after school that she finally had to courage to talk back to anyone that wronged or upset her. And how. She is capable of coming up with cutting retorts and can actually be quite cruel if she puts her mind to it. On the other hand, she now becomes flustered very easily and it is definitely not hard to annoy her. It’s not that she doesn’t have a sense of humour, but she tends to be slightly oversensitive when it comes to personal attacks. She can remain calm around students, she spent years studying them while she worked in Hogsmeade, the best way to deal with a problem student is to not show any fear. But around adults she's not afraid to show her temper.

She sometimes takes things far too seriously and she's quite a tough teacher. She won't hesitate to take points off a student for misbehaving, but she's fair and she rewards generously. She makes her lessons fun and as hands on as possible and she's always an enthusiastic teacher.

Physical Description: Claire originally had light brown hair but started a tradition when she worked in Hogsmeade to dye it a different colour so she could surprise the students each time they came to the little town. She has brown eyes, although not the traditional sort, she can't pull off the pleading puppy dog look like other brown-eyed people can. Her height is roughly 5'7" and she's an average sort of build. You can tell when she's bottling in her troubles as her weight fluctuates to either noticeably skinny or noticeably putting on weight.
Preferred Body Model: Franka Potente
Future Body Model: N/A

If this is your first UK character: Please give us a sample RP, at least one paragraph in length.

Claire smiled softly as she watched the students leave the shop, chattering amongst themselves excitedly. Hogsmeade visits were always a thrilling time not because of the shopping opportunities (there wasn’t that many in actual fact although the sweet shop was always good value) but because you got to go out with your friends with very little teacher supervision. It was fun to look around all the stores but acting like a ‘grown-up’? That was the best bit of all.

The best bit for the store employees was the end of the day. For Claire it was catching the students with ‘sticky hands’. She waved her wand at the pocket of a young boy disappearing out the door and a Sneakoscope came zoomed towards her. The former Ravenclaw caught it with one hand and placed it in a basket at her feet. That was item number sixteen she had reclaimed from kids who thought they were the next François Villon, the famous French thief (and poet).

Transfiguration Professor

Character Information
Name:
Edward Wilhelm Reed
LJ Username: [info]herr_edward
Age: 34
Birthdate: November 29th, 1972
Location: Hogwarts
Former House: Ravenclaw
Occupation: Transfiguration Professor

Bloodline: Pureblood
Heritage: British/German

Personal History: So, what happens when a recovering werewolf-victim and a crazy madhatter woman love each other very much? Little Edward Reed comes along! Born into an old-fashioned, inheritance-dependent family of Purebloods, Edward grew up learning the ways of being a gentleman. His father Wolfram was still recovering from a werewolf bite, so most of the time it was his mother Catherine doting on him. His parents jumped on the fact that he had no other siblings, and so they spoiled him for many, many years. To them, he was a toy. Just something that they could shape to become the perfect little boy they’d always wanted.

Everything was fine and dandy until Wolfram became very ill. The werewolf bite hadn’t been treated that well, and he fell into a terrible sickness. From that point on, the household became gloomy, and Catherine slowly became what could be called a lunatic. After a few years, Wolfram died a painful death, and Edward became the ‘head of the house’. By then, Catherine had completely lost her mind. Even at the maturing age of 11, she would still dress Edward up and tell him nasty lies. Things like “you’re nothing without your father” or “you’re the reason why he’s dead”.

And so, growing up, Edward began to detest his mother and all of the things she tried to brainwash him into thinking. Upon going to Hogwarts (and being sorted into the jolly house of Ravenclaw) he vowed that he would attempt to help his mother. Naturally, he couldn’t do anything of the sort. The best he could do was the stunt he pulled in his last year at Hogwarts. His sick mother was on her deathbed, and Edward transfigured himself to look like his father, planning on appearing in front of his mother. Upon seeing ‘Wolfram’, Catherine could die a happy death. From then on, Edward devoted his life to learning about Transfiguration.

Personality: Edward is the typical Austen/Bronte-esque hero. He uses a bit of old-fashioned language, and he is extremely proper. His manners are superb, and he can be rather eloquent when he needs to be. Though, he can be reclusive as well, and he also has a nasty temper. He appears to be a big, tough guy, and he comes across that way to most people, but he always feels terrible after shouting at someone or giving a student a bad grade. Also, Edward is TERRIBLE with speaking with women he likes. He tends to clam up and fumble for words. And if he can’t find the right words, he simply blushes and turns away. He hates himself for that. But otherwise, he is calm and stern and extremely professional.

Edward is also a true romantic at heart, though. In both ways. He’s a romantic in that he appreciates nature and enjoying a fine walk in the woods. He’s also a romantic in the sense that he craves a healthy and strong relationship. Edward would also be the first to deliver flowers and chocolate to a woman he loves on Valentine’s Day, or her birthday, for instance. Even if he is awkward about it. -.-

Physical Description: Standing at a tall height of 6'2", Edward is rather intimidating at first glance. His hair is tidy, black, and always done for the occasion. He always dresses nicely, because that’s how he was brought up, and sometimes it might appear that he fell right out of the 1800s. That’s only if he REALLY wants to wear a cravat. Edward’s eyes are calm and sincere, almost a radiating blue, usually scowling in focus when he reads. He also wears reading glasses, but he thinks they make him look much older than he is, so you’ll rarely find him wearing them.

Preferred Body Model: Richard Armitage
Future Body Model: Same

Librarian
[info]hih_dumbledore
2008-08-10 07:48 pm UTC (link)
Character Information
Name:
Agis Theobald Yule
LJ Username: [info]agis_yule
Age: Twenty-four
Birthdate: December 25
Location: Hogwarts
Former House: Hufflepuff
Occupation: Hogwarts Librarian. Agis does most everything Irma Pince once did, and then some. He keeps the library orderly and clean, hounds down students if they've failed to return a book, and keeps the noise level at a reasonable volume (a constant battle). Unlike Pince, however, he spends much of his time helping students locate references and research material.

He doesn't make much of a fuss over students accidentally dirtying or damaging any of the books, as one of his best subjects was Charms and he's quite capable of fixing them. The most he'll do if a kid comes in with a particularly abused book is raise a brow at them.

Being a firm believer in keeping dangerous books out of incompetent hands, he has placed several jinxes on the entrance to the Restricted Section. When a student comes in with a signed permission note from a Professor he has to accompany them to the back to keep them from setting anything off.

During the summer he goes home to Edinburgh, having set up arrangements a few months in advance to rent a room in a house or something like that. He doesn't see much point in holding onto a place for the whole year when he won't be spending it there.

Bloodline: Halfblood
Heritage: Scottish, Korean

Personal History: Theobald Yule was a pretty normal wizard, his father a Scottish Muggleborn and his mother a British Korean Pureblood. He was on an assignment for work the day he met his wife. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement (Magical Equipment Control, to be precise) had sent him out, as they often did, to repair a malfunctioning ward. In working condition, the ward would repel many a manner of magical creature, ensuring that they keep away from areas with high Muggle populations (having to send in Obliviators to wipe clean the minds of children who encountered boggarts under their beds was never an ideal situation.)

This particular ward happened to be located in the back yard of one Charlotte McMillan, a normal Muggle. Charlotte was a student at the University of Edinburgh, and had been cramming that day for an upcoming Archaeology test when she spotted a strange man in her garden waving a little stick around. That alone would have been strange enough, but he outdid himself when a large altar of glowing light suddenly appeared and he began poking and prodding it, whisps and lashes of glowing light coming from the end of his stick as he went about his task.

Miss McMillan had always been a rather curious person, and so she had rushed downstairs and poked her head out the back door, trying to determine what exactly he was doing. He noticed her, spurring the beginning of a relationship between the two when he decided against notifying the Obliviator Headquarters that she had seen him working. He was so taken with her that he allowed her to ask him questions, answering fully. He was in direct violation of the International Code of Wizarding Secrecy, but he hardly cared at the time.

Within very little time the two became engaged, waiting until Charlotte was done with school to get married. After that, it wasn't long until Agis was born one sleepy Christmas morning. After him, four sisters in quick succession. The Yules were the happiest family on the block, if not the most hectic. Agis' quiet nature, bless his little heart, wasn't well suited for dealing with a household of chaotic women, but he loved them all the same.

It became clear early on that all five Yule children possessed magical ability, so it was no surprise when Agis received an acceptance letter from Hogwarts. Up to that point Agis' parents had been homeschooling him and his sisters, so he relished the prospect of living away from home, if only during the academic term. He was quite happy that he had two whole years before he had to worry about any of his siblings coming to join him.

At Hogwarts he was sorted into Hufflepuff, the sorting hat thinking a good few moments before announcing its decision. It considered sorting him into Ravenclaw given his appreciation for learning, but throughout his school years Agis was glad he was sorted into Hufflepuff, for of all the houses his was the most relaxed and accommodating. He did well in school, and upon leaving decided to pursue a career with the Department of International Magical Cooperation, working with magical governments of other countries.

But after four years of playing friendly with difficult representatives from one particularly self-important country, Agis decided it just wasn't for him. He found himself longing for his days at Hogwarts when he had spent countless hours studying in the library, enjoying the quiet, simple pleasure.

So it seemed almost too good to be true when he heard that Hogwarts was looking for a new librarian. He quit his job, knowing that even if he wasn't hired by Hogwarts that he still couldn't bear to work there anymore, and applied for the position. He was ecstatic when he was accepted, a rather strong emotion coming from someone normally so reserved.

As the librarian, Agis has spent three happy years at Hogwarts.

Personality: Reserved, quiet, and broody. Agis was the kid who usually sat off to the side in class, trying to avoid the teacher's notice long enough to take a nap. Perpetually sleepy and calm, his nonchalance can be quite irritating at times. It takes a lot to make him really smile, even more to make him angry.

He's awfully tolerant, and he makes a disgustingly nice friend. You could probably betray him in the worst of ways, but as long as he was convinced you were sorry he'd be perfectly capable of forgiving you on the spot. He hates conflict and drama, avoiding it like the plague.

Agis is very laid-back, made obvious by his lounging about the library with his nose in a book when there's no work to be done and no noisy students to shut up. He's never been naturally gifted or intelligent, every ounce of smarts he has he gained through hard work and study. He's a very determined guy that way. He's somewhat OC and obsesses over keeping the books in order. If he were to see someone misshelve something he'd freak out a little on the inside.

He would never admit it, but he's a total mama's boy. She's one of the few people that he willingly uses an owl to keep in contact with. He can get quite attached to people and be very caring, even if he doesn't show it as clearly as some. He adores students that come into the library, their little minds firmly set on finishing an essay. He loves helping them find proper resources, and he's even been known to tutor those that desperately need it. He likes being helpful. This makes him a great person to turn to if you need aid with something, or if you just need a listening ear. He can sometimes dish out some good advice, and he's not too bad at comforting crying girls, as he has had plenty of experience in that field dealing with his four younger sisters.

Physical Description: Curly dark brown hair, somewhat long and unkempt. Dark brown eyes, very pale complexion. Stands at 5' 11", weighs 165lbs. Defined musculature, but not bulky.

Agis is actually quite fashionable, although he insists that he buys designer clothing because it's well made rather then because he's vain. He loves being warm and comfortable, so he's usually wearing some kind of sweater or jacket. He's normally somewhat formally dressed, even when he's not working. Dress shirts with the sleeves rolled up, ties, sweater vests/turtlenecks, and slacks are what he's usually seen wearing. He likes to stick with neutral tones.

The most casual he gets is jeans and a t-shirt, but that's very rare. He wouldn't dream of wearing something threadbare, couldn't even imagine wearing anything stained or torn. In his opinion, being well dressed is one of the simpler pleasures in life.
